Marcia's Approach

Blue Water_edited_edited.jpg

Over Marcia’s 40 years as a therapist, she has moved from a Western-based medical model, to a more holistic approach in her psychotherapeutic work. Rather than looking for what is wrong, missing, and needs to be fixed, her focus is on removing the blocks to accessing the essential humanness that is already there. She works from a “developing” model, and not an “overcoming” one. For example, there is no need for stinginess to be “overcome,” rather generosity “developed.”

Marcia’s early training and work, in the 1970’s and 1980’s, was primarily based on psychoanalytic theory. In the 1990’s she was introduced to Buddhist psychology with its non-pathological approach, which has greatly informed her work. She has been trained in a depth and variety of psychotherapeutic theories and approaches, some of which include:

> EMDR (EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION & REPROCESSING)
> CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS DEBRIEFING
> BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY
> GESTALT THERAPY
> BIOENERGETIC THERAPY

In the therapeutic relationship, Marcia opens one to what is possible and facilitates and clears the path for making it available to everyone. Her approach in her work with others has been described as “empowering, igniting hope, developing radical responsibility, generous and compassionate,” with her clients “realizing their full potential and power.”
